A royal source said that the Prince of Wales was “delighted” to be introduced to 1-year-old Lilibet and to see his 3-year-old grandson Archie for the first time since Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry relocated to California. The source described it as “wonderful” to have had the Duke and Duchess of Sussex back in the UK and that Charles and Duchess Camilla were “delighted” to see them. They went on, “The prince of course hasn’t seen his grandson Archie for a bit of time and so it was very, very, very special to have some time with him. He hadn’t met Lilibet, his granddaughter, and so to meet her for the first time was I think very emotional, a very wonderful thing.” It wasn’t confirmed where the meeting took place but it is likely that Charles visited the Sussexes’ UK home of Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate, where Meghan and Harry threw Lilibet her very first birthday party amid the queen’s jubilee celebrations. On their return to California they released an adorable birthday picture of Lilibet sitting in the grass outside Frogmore Cottage during the “intimate garden picnic” that was attended by close friends and family. It’s not thought that Charles was in attendance, or Harry’s brother and sister-in-law Prince William and Duchess Kate. Charles has found himself mired in controversy this week after it was revealed that he accepted €3m ($3.1m) in a cash donation from a “a billionaire Qatari sheikh” that was handed over to Clarence House in a suitcase and a carrier bag from luxury store Fortnum and Mason. Three donations were made between 2011 and 2015 to The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund. After the revelations, a spokesperson said that the prince would no longer accept large cash donations on behalf of his charities.
